The gunshot rang out across the canyon as the Zebra's body slumped and fell into the crevass he was scouting, one less Remnant stalking these hallowed grounds and one less bullet in my saddlebag. The spent case falling to the ground as I chambered a new round.

"You are quite the sharpshooter, Trueshot. Your mark betrays your ability," she said, referring to my 'explosive .308 round' cutie mark as I picked the case out of the dirt and replaced it in the leg-wrap with the others.

"Well ya do know everythin' 'bout marks dontcha, Canaan?" Okay, that might have sounded a bit rude.

"Too much, one might say..." the unicorns eyes cast down at the bandages covering her body as well as the five .45 auto pistols she carries. Returning her gaze to me she continued, "Though it would seem mine are nothing compared to one that you must carry."

"I don't want to talk about that right now," annoyance rising in my voice, "we need to keep moving if we're gonna corner Fields Ablaze at the back of the canyon. An' don't forget, we still need to find a way to destroy the Remnants here and make sure they can't come back." An obvious change of subject, I really hated talking about my... "unique" mane coloration.

"Running from your past does not make it go away, nor does it secure a safe future." She said as she trotted up behind me, resting a hoof on my wing she continued, "That is why I face my past head on for I feel it is the only way to continue forward... even if my future will be a lonely one..." her icy cyan eyes scanning the horizon past Crescent Moon Canyon.

"What do you mean, Canaan? Wontcha be stayin' with the tribes here?" my eyes drawn to the glyph scrawled across the bandages on her flank.

A cross with the sun behind it's center.

"No. I will leave once our task is complete. The tribes will not need me, my way of life, and they will not miss me." she turned back toward the cave entrance, "My stripes have not disappeared, only changed. I am a pony in the eyes of zebras and a zebra in the eyes of ponies."

"You know Ah don't care what ya look like... I'll go with you!"

"No, Trueshot. After today you can no longer help me fight my past, you have your own to face."

"Ah still don't want you to be alone out there, fightin' the Remnants and all..." I turned back to the sheer cliff wall staring down at where the scout's body fell, swallowing the sadness starting to rise in my voice.

"My past and future are full of fear, anger, and bloodshed but your future... your future, I can see life blooming in this barren landscape. All it needs is a little light, and you my colorful friend, you are a light shining in darkness." Canaan started walking back to into the cave, her words echoing a bit as she entered the opening, "perhaps we will meet again, when the land is peaceful once more, may Celestia show mercy to the daughter of Babylon..." she finished with a low chuckle.

With that I turned to follow her back into the cave. Then a thought surfaced. I recalled her naming the pistol she kept closest to her heart, Babylon.
This is just a snippet of the FO:E fic i am starting/writing/helping write/going to need help writing and is also an important moment in Trueshot's past.
The title "Worlds Collide" may not be the permanent title but i think it fits for now.
